Parent Participation

Co-op is founded on the principle that when parents are involved in their children's education, everyone—teachers, parents, and children—benefit. Parents enrich and enliven the classroom, and they gain skills by observing experienced teachers. The transition to school is gentler for children with a parent occasionally working in the classroom. (They also must learn to share a parent's attention with other children!) Everyone has a chance to engage in a dialogue about the education of their children—and embark on that journey together.

At Co-op, parents play a role in the classroom, as well as through the organization and administration of the school. For each class session, two parents work alongside the teacher. Depending on the class, each family can expect to work between one and three times per month. Each family also fulfills a "major commitment"—see our parent page for more information on commitments.

There are also additional opportunities for parents who wish to get more involved, including serving on our Parent Board.
